We all are afraid of losing a bunch of rating points, and many avoid playing rated games with higher rated players because they know they most probably won't win. But that's actually a very wrong mindset
Let me ask you these 3 questions:
1. Do higher rated player always win? 2. How much rating will you lose if you lose to a very higher rated opponent? 3. If by luck you win, how much rating are you gonna gain?
I think it's pretty clear now what I mean. Suppose you are 1500 rated and your opponent is 2000. If you lose, you'll hardly lose 1 rating point, and many a times, you won't lose any at all. And trust me, you are not always going to lose, especially if its a short time control, like blitz or bullet. Averagely you should have one win after every 5-6 losses.
So go and play in arenas filled with players a lot higher rated than you! Many of them will immediately go berserk, after seeing your rating, use that to your advantage, and put them into time pressure. ;)
