ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

Organic Chemistry is a branch of chemistry which deals with study of hydrocarbons and its derivatives.
The substances which are obtained from living organisms like plants, animals are called Organic compounds. Examples- Sugar, Starch, Alcohol, Oils etc.
DISCOVERIES-
In 1828, Scientist Wohler first synthesized an organic compound Urea in the laboratory by heating ammonium cyanate.
Later In 1845, Scientist Kolbe synthesized Acetic acid.
In 1856, Scientist Berthelot synthesized Methane.

The substances which were not obtained from living organisms are called Inorganic compounds.
The substances which are obtained from living organisms are called organic compounds.

ORGANIC COMPOUNDS-
These compounds consist of elements such as carbon ,hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and Sulphur. They are found in living matter. They are insoluble in water and are soluble in other polar solvents. They are non-conductors of electricity. Chemical reactions are slow.

INORGANIC COMPOUNDS-
These compounds are highly complex. These compounds consist of all the elements. They are found in non-living matter. They are soluble in water and are insoluble in other solvents. They are good conductors of electricity. Chemical reactions are fast. These compounds are less complex.
