Hi! I'm National Master and FIDE Candidate Master Joseph Wan. I'm currently a senior at Vanderbilt University, majoring in psychology, MHS, and Japanese.

I am the Associate Chess Director at the Nashville Chess Center, and am head chess coach at Head Middle Magnet and Meigs Middle Magnet Schools in Nashville, TN. My top student, AFM Joseph Pregon, recently crossed 2000 USCF to become an USCF expert!

I am the current captain of the championship Iowa team in the States Chess Cup, as well as the captain of multiple teams in ICC's long running team4545 league. Outside of chess, I'm an avid piano and violin player. I was Iowa State Champion (2017) in piano, Iowa City Champion (2020), as well as an Iowa All-State Orchestra member on violin (2018 and 2019). My chess skills also transferred well to the mobile game Clash Royale. At my peak season I was ranked #4016 in the world, and have reached the Ultimate Champion league twice.
