God help you Canada.

The party that destroyed our beloved nation has been elected to another term. All the basic highest priority things needed for life, food, housing medical care and more have been absolutely gutted and are now almost beyond the average person's ability to obtain under this regime. And we elect them again because of what, a belligerent man-child to the South? Has the world gone mad?
Oh sure, you'll say Carney is not Trudeau. No he was just one of his closest advisors responsible for leading him to some of his most disastrous policies. Please send us your prayers, we will need them.

Fear not, there are still moose aplenty! And the Northern Lights, at times!

And there is still a bundle of Canadian hockey teams left in the playoffs. Is Ottawa on a roll now? Will this be their year? That would be pretty cool. An optimism-inspiring victory for persistence. Much stranger things have happened!

Life is good. Or at least it could be worse.

I support Trump, but his calling Canada the 51st state did not help matters.

I certainly won't disagree with that, @KNIGHT_c4

Not every joke turns out to be a keeper, eh?

To everything there is a season except for Donald's mouth. It's always turned "on".

That's neo-liberalism for you. Enriches the elite primarily and screws the workers. Praying won't do you no good. You need to get out on the street campaigning and withdrawing your labour. No labour, no profit!

Poilievre was defeated in his electoral district. I guess losing his seat means something.

Ha, that certainly hadn't been resolved when CBC's election night coverage went off air, nor had even majority or minority status. So I got the news from you, thanks.
It's so hard to imagine this outcome because a few months ago every single thing seemed to be all pointing to him being a shoe in for PM. An extremely unpopular PM, devastation of quality of life in Canada largely under his mismanagement, close friendship with said PM, a FOURTH term for the same party?, and Pierre is very articulate and sharp. I witnessed that myself watching the podcasts he was in. Man, I would literally have given you 2 to 1 odds with my life savings at him being PM at that time. And now he can't even win his own seat? I mean wtf?

Where do you get this "devastation of quality of life in Canada largely under his mismanagement"? And where especially do you get Pollywannacracker being "articulate and sharp"? OK, like a parrot he repeats what he hears, but he doesn't seem to understand what he says any more than a parrot does.

How about this: the quality of life in Canada has been steadily eroding for the past 50 years, ever since a conservative PM (Mulroney) signed a dubious trade agreement with an unreliable partner, and began introducing ill-conceived tax policies that favoured capital. These policies led to the annihilation of the Progressive Conservative Party. Successive Liberal governments did little to change course, and during the lost decade of Harper and company, things got significantly worse. But suddenly Trudeau is to blame for a half century of decline.

Let's take housing, since that was one of Pollywannacracker's pet issues. For 9 months in 2015, he was minister of employment and social development in the Harper government. As such, he was responsible the CMHC, Canada's national housing agency. The agency that is responsible for building affordable homes. So how many non-profit or community housing units were funded by the CMHC in that year? Six. To be fair, during that time some 4,200 non-profit and co-operative units were built, mostly by the provinces and cities, but I'm sure the CMHC contributed to some of those. But certainly not 200,000, as PP himself claimed. No, 194 thousand is how many units were built by the private sector in that year, which is comparable to what gets built anyway in other years. Well, conservatives have never been good with numbers. And it should be noted that when bills in support of affordable housing have been introduced in Parliament, PP has voted against them. Nine times in twenty years PP has voted against affordable housing. That's more often than anyone else in the period when he was in parliament.

And his own constituents turned on him. They figured out that, in a time of crisis, it's best not to send a boy to do a man's job.

No evidence, no sources, and Flapsy boy approves :). Typical of conservatives. Carney gave some advice to the PM on covid economic policies, but that's really it.

As for spiking housing prices, the liberal government already stated they miscalculated and were working to reduce immigration and start working on building homes. I consider this to be mainly an error of Trudeau.

Carney is a professional economist with some strong credentials and he has talked at length about this issue and how he would fix it. He has released a plan to resolve the issue that's on par with what Canada did after WWII. I think its appropriate and shows he has a serious plan.

Pierre Polievre is just another generic attack dog conservative who doesn't have a plan on climate change and wants to return Canada to becoming an oil exporter. I just think that's really short-sighted considering the world is facing a climate crisis. I don't want a government that doesn't believe in basic science in charge. And his housing plan aims to produce roughly the same number of homes as Carney's. So I don't see any functional difference there, except Carney has way better credentials.

It comes down to, one is a serious professional economist. The other one blows up when reporters ask him questions and reminds many people of Trump, is more or less a generic politician, and like all conservatives they think climate change is a myth. Yup I know I voted for the right party.
