Google v/s ChatGPT ! Which is better?

Sorry, my posts are often too long. You could ask ChatGPT to summarise my post! It's impressively good at tasks like that. This is a human summary for comparison:

What you should know about ChatGPT is that it is
- a large language model
- that's a computer program trained on a huge dataset of text and labeled images (and other media)
- it repeatedly tries to predict which word or segment comes next when you give it a few words as input
- it also uses its own previous text outputs as new input ("autoregressive" language model)
- that means longer outputs with fewer repetitions (it stores what it has already put out)

You shouldn't confuse large language models like ChatGPT with artificial general intelligence. That's a dreamt up self-conscious form of AI which doesn't exist as of now.
You should also know that ChatGPT is
- not yet great at providing consistently factual information despite already getting a lot of stuff right
- some of its text outputs can be a mixture of both factual statements and fictional ones
- this problem is known as "hallucination"
- facts and "hallucinations" are presented side by side, both sound reasonable and are asserted with (seeming) confidence
- that makes them hard to notice and insidious, especially since ChatGPT doesn't cite sources
- when you need to be sure of something ask a (human) teacher and/or use a search engine/library to find reliable sources
What's the point of deciding which is "better"?
Make the best use of both. Sometimes one will fail you, sometimes the other, sometimes both.
I had chatGPT write about its own and google's shortcomings. Here's what it said.
As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I can provide some general insights into the potential upsides and downsides of Google and ChatGPT. Keep in mind that developments may have occurred since then.

### Google:

#### Upsides:

1. **Innovation and Diversity of Services:**
- Google is known for its innovative approach to technology and has a diverse range of services beyond its search engine, including Gmail, Google Drive, Google Maps, and more.
- Investments in projects like Google Brain and DeepMind showcase the company's commitment to cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning.

2. **Search Engine Dominance:**
- Google continues to be the most widely used search engine globally, offering accurate and relevant search results.

3. **Cloud Services:**
- Google Cloud provides a suite of services for businesses, including computing, storage, machine learning, and data analytics.

4. **Android Operating System:**
- Android is the most widely used mobile operating system, powering a significant portion of the world's smartphones.

#### Downsides:

1. **Privacy Concerns:**
- Google has faced criticism for its data collection practices and the potential misuse of user information for targeted advertising.
(Note: I do get targeted advertising that should not come to me.)
2. **Monopoly and Antitrust Issues:**
- Google has been under scrutiny for alleged antitrust violations, with concerns about its dominance in online advertising, search, and other digital markets.

3. **Censorship and Controversies:**
- Google has faced criticism for compliance with censorship requests in certain countries and controversies related to its corporate policies.

### ChatGPT:

#### Upsides:

1. **Natural Language Understanding:**
- ChatGPT and similar language models represent significant advancements in natural language understanding, enabling more sophisticated and context-aware conversations.
(Note: I really can just have a conversation with chatGPT sometimes and the results differ in interesting ways.)

2. **Versatility:**
- ChatGPT can be used for a wide range of applications, from answering questions to content generation, code writing, and more.

3. **Accessibility:**
- Language models like ChatGPT make technology more accessible to users who may not have programming skills, allowing them to interact with systems using natural language.

#### Downsides:

1. **Bias and Ethical Concerns:**
- Language models may inadvertently perpetuate biases present in the training data, leading to biased or inappropriate responses.

I did add some notes in there to show my opinion about chatGPT in general. I think you can get more diverse responses with chatGPT than google, and with less websurfing to find the specific topic you need. I am generally pro chatGPT.
