Tournament Overview
The Chess Matrix Candidates Tournament is the ultimate online battle for the top talent in our academy! Featuring the best 8 players from Chess Matrix, this event determines who will advance to the prestigious Chess Matrix Championship 2024, scheduled for November.
Only those who have achieved 1500+ rating on Lichess are eligible to participate, ensuring high-level, competitive play throughout the event.

Key Details
Eligibility: Minimum 1500 rating on Lichess.org
Format: Double Round-Robin Tournament
Each player competes twice against every other participant – once with white pieces and once with black pieces.
The player with the most points at the end of the tournament claims victory.
If two or more players are tied, tiebreakers such as head-to-head score or rapid/blitz playoffs will decide the final standings.
Time Control: 30 minutes + 20 seconds increment per move

Tiebreaks
In case of a tie in the final standings:
Two Rapid Games: Time control of 10+5 (10 minutes with 5-second increments).
Two Blitz Games: Time control of 5+3 (5 minutes with 3-second increments).
Armageddon Game: If still tied, a single Armageddon game will decide the winner.
White gets 5 minutes, Black gets 4 minutes (with no increment), and a draw favors Black.

The top 2 finishers in this Candidates Tournament will secure their spot in the Chess Matrix Championship 2024 – the grand event where the best minds of Chess Matrix will compete for ultimate glory!
