My friend are traumatized by this huge incident at school

Around a month ago, one of my cousins friend faced a problem...
See a teacher had left a school due to a problem with the management
So the teacher posted a instagram video trolling few teachers and my friend commented on the video( he was studying in that school) mentioning the name of the teachers who the video was targeted on.. (he didn't mention there names completely (he replaced few letters with stars lol) after that some people who were in that school replied to the comment by trolling the management again....
So some staff took a photo of this comment and replies and sent it to the chairman of the school who then called the whole class... he then also forced everyone to give their IG account passwords and opened their IG accounts in the school and then opened the students chat and messages . He went in to the chats and took printout of the chats and kept them as a file... he even read personal chats 0f the students with their friends... although it the chat wasn't that bad. Some students had talked about teachers (roasting them) but didn't use cursewords...
For that they said that the class can go to jail for these chats ( the chats contained no vulgar , rscm, or cursewords) just what highschoolers will talk to each other...
For one boy , they even opened his private chats... with his family
This was for grade 10,
I wonder if this is legal, and whether the students where at fault
BTW th chairman had also given physical beatings to ,any of them
My cousin's friend ie still traumatised by this incident
A really disturbing story that leaves me stunned! Social media is both a curse and a blessing.

What the Chairman has done is, of course, absolutely illegal. I hope you live in a country where the police are dealing with these incidents. In very many countries, this chairman would lose office due to the use of physical force.
Can someone say to me what that guy said in short because I don't have time to read something which is that much long.

Ok leave the physical force cause I am I india
Talk about opening IG accounts and chats giving the reason to discipline students and punch them for any talks .
Here the police usually support the school and stuff and the chairman can just bribe them lol
People also say it is permissible to open the IG accounts as the children were minors as under age 18 ( they're 15 years old)

They also threatened them by saying that the children can be sent to jail for the things thay have done
I don't know about being illegal, but it is certainly not ethical or moral and seems like an overreaction. Often being legal does not equate to being moral in many countries :)

Such people won't understand that by reacting like this, they are not making it any good for themselves or for anyone. The chairperson might have scared the kids from gossiping or making parodies of the teachers via intimidation, but he can't change their feelings. I suspect he only made it worse, including his own image and character.

In any case, it is sad to hear of such things. Unfortunately, we can't control such events, only our own reactions and actions when these happen. Try to convey to your cousin's friend and the students that it was not their fault and they should not take it on themselves. If possible, let the legal authorities know, let the parents know, fight fire with fire, let the social media know, or just ignore and move on.

By the way, the teacher who left and posted the original video, I think that was unprofessional behavior too :)

It is not legal. Students should have refused to give them information. What you post is public, but private info, such as passwords or conversations are not extent to a breach until a court order appears.

If the take actions against students for not providing, thats enough for a lawsuit. They can request, but its not mandatory to comply.
i wouldn't call it a traumatizing experience because i know a teacher who got his face posted (they made an account with his name and posted bad things, it isn't as bad as NS*W but still bad), and they did same thing which is logical
i also know someone from us, his school had apps installed on there pcs to track there activities which was totally legal for some reason.

but for this case it is totally illegal to check private messages unless they get court authorization but the students probably didn't know there rights, what was it called? the 4th amendment

It is in India. The 4th amendment does not apply there, Neither in Canada even if some so-called Freedom Truckers invoked it in front of judges in Canada's Court of law.

This is india bruh
Actually they threatened the students with like if they don't give them the password then they're gonna give a transfer certificate and stuff
And what about being under 18. Like I thought these rules only apply to those above 18...
They also threatened to inform parents becuase the children where scared about their parents being mad at them...
In the end they did call around 4 students parents and inform what happened
BTW the chairmen said if they don't give the passwords then they're gonna call the police and tell them to track ip address and crack the password. Or they're gonna call parents and ask them for the password
