pychess:
www.pychess.org this is a webside dedicated for variants but they also allow for thematic matchmaking, meaning u can make a custom position chess game in the lobby. theres also much less restrictions (like u can add more pieces, pawns can start on first rank) on lichess this is impossible. (tho u can still play these "fairy positions" against a friend, but thats the only way. this is why none of our teambattles has these positions)
some fun unofficial variants I've found but no websites supports is as of yet:
- "mexican king variant" rules are exactly the same as in standard but u can also win by getting ur king to the 8th rank.
- "losers chess" exactly like anti chess only Kings are royal.
- "chess960+" like chess960 but with no restrictions (like both rooks dont have to be on opposite sides of king and bishops can start on same colours. king can start in corners etc) meaning the starting positions are truly random!
