The right to revenge in chess

@MrPushwood

Beware the terrorist of chess (the Unibrower). Seriously, folks...the right to revenge? Just when I thought I had heard it all...

@shadow1414 Don't forget: Asking for a rematch is poor sportsmanship, plus a sign of some mental imbalance.

I was starting to get worried; it's been a while since "new" threads about rematches were opened.
Things are back to normal.
Nope there was one just 10 hours before https://lichess.org/forum/general-chess-discussion/why-is-it-so-rare-to-pair-with-player-that-plays-more-than-1-game just not using any funny terms like revenge, taking points

I'd missed it. If I'd read it, I could have saved myself 10 hours of worry.

REVENGE is EVIL, not PEACEFUL.
Punish severely those that want revenge, don't punish those that want peacefulness.

A rematch is not a revenge.

At school it's called a rewrite of an exam. Not a rematch or a revenge for a failed exam.
You fail an exam, it does not mean you have the right for a rewrite.

There is no rule about the right to have a rematch. It sounds rude to assume a person has rights of a rematch after a failed attempt.

When you loose you snooze, like a knock-out.

#8: I’m split on if I consider refusing draws in completely drawn situations to be poor sportsmanship or not. I could be convinced either way, as I don’t think it’s the same as not resigning in completely lost positions.

#14: Someone on Reddit claimed that because an individual was going for all of the flags in Assassin’s Creed One—which, in that game, seems like a poorly designed collectible—they, ‘must have OCD or something.’

It seems that mental disorders, mental illnesses, and mental health in general are thrown around like personality traits.

I believe that people (including myself at times) need to cool their jets before seeking a rematch. I also believe that declining a rematch is legitimate. Sometimes, people need to take a break from chess. I wouldn't want to pressure someone for a rematch only to find out that he/she is too tired to give me a good game. Besides, there is no rule (in standard chess, anyway) that requires a rematch. What if the loser of the first game wins the second game? Are we going to say everyone has a right to a tie-break game?

No one has a "right" to either a rematch or tie-break. I would consider myself privileged if someone offered me another chance to win, but I certainly wouldn't feel entitled to it.

Lichess is right! Players shouldn't be forced to play rematch if they don't want to.

I never accept rematches. My reason is quite simple and it's that after every game I put it through the engine and see what I missed. Occasionally it will show opening mistakes in which case I'll remember it next time I reach that position and if I missed a tactic I'll try to take that into account in future matches since it could be a blind spot.

If I want to play another game I'll get a new random opponent. If it happens to be person I just played then the Random Number God has blessed his rematch request and I'll play them.
