UVM Spring 2021 Intramural Chess Championshp

The tournament will be held on Lichess on Saturday, April 24. IMPORTANT: After joining this team, you also must click the tournament "S21 Intramural Competitive" below and click Join. Make sure to have the tournament page open at the scheduled round times and you will be paired and placed in a game automatically. You must join the Teams call 15 minutes early (4:45pm EST) to check in.

This is a Swiss Style (SS) tournament with 5 rounds of G10+3. This means both players' clocks start at 10 minutes and 3 seconds is added each move. Swiss style means you will receive 1pt for a win, 1/2pt for a draw, and 0pts for a loss, and the player with the most points after all rounds wins (Lichess might do 2pt, 1pt, and 0pts to stick with whole numbers).

What anti-cheating measures are in place?

• All players are required to stay in the Microsoft Teams call (link in email) during the games with video on and mic off. Currently, remote USCF tournaments require a side-angle camera that shows your computer screen as well. We are not requiring this because not everyone has a tripod, but we hope a face camera discourages receiving help from roommates, onlookers, etc. You may turn off video between rounds once your game has ended. Lichess also has cheating detection built in. Any instances of suspected cheating will be investigated and may result in disqualification. Do not use an engine or get any assistance from others while playing. Let's keep this a fun and honest tournament!

What if I am not placed in a game at the round start time?

• If you are not automatically placed in a game (or arrive late, etc.), click your username in the top right of Lichess, then Profile, then click the Games tab. The live game should be at the top of the list - click to join it and start playing. If there is not a game there, you may have received a 1/2pt bye due to an odd number of players. Feel free to speak up in the Teams call if you have questions and we will help you.
