Does chess need an update?

Does chess 2 really need to be created?

And for what purpose?

High level chess is really drawish

And pretty much all openings have already been created

So do we really need a chess 2?

And if so then how would we go about creating chess 2?

Would we use luck

or randomness like chess 960

or would we just make it more complex

or add new rules

and at that point would it still be chess?

I think Crazyhouse = chess 2.
And many other variants like chess 960, Capablanca's Chess.

Crazyhouse is probably the most likely candidate but its well, a bit crazy

Its too rogue and unpredictable to be like regular chess

Though it is a very fun variant

Chess does not need an update and it can't be updated or patched like your typical video game. You can only create variants.

At the highest level, yes, chess has a tendency to be more drawish (which makes sense) but someone still wins the tournament (surprisingly) .I would be more concerned if the majority of tournaments end up in a draw where no one is a winner.

Below high level competition, chess is definitely not drawish. This is something you shouldn't worry at your level because more than likely you won't even get there.

Pretty much all openings had been created. You can say the same for a lot things outside chess. When I am playing an action RPG, pretty much all the elements had been already done before. It just new graphics and cosmetics but at the end of the day, it's still the same. I haven't seen anything new for years. The good thing about chess is we are not at the mercy of the developer's decision of what skills or heroes will be nerfed or buffed next patch. Chess stays the same (obviously that also has a con for some folks).

No. The fact that the rules have not been changed for over 500 years shows its timelessness

If you're not a fan of draws and are interested in truly next-level chess, try Trice's Chess (https://triceschess.com).

It's already been done. #FiscerRandomForever

I guess the only thing that I would change or update about chess, is after colours chosen randomly , the players would then flip a black and white othello disc to see who moved first xxx opening another billion trillion scenarios to chess if it ever gets close to being a 'solved ' game for white as it moves first xxx white will always win , when you play two computers against each other cause it moves first ,' ( ref)queens gambit 'xxx

You are absolutely right

By an update I meant creating a chess variant which keeps most the rules of chess but maybe adds extra pieces or changes a rules so that it could be the sequel to chess

At most levels chess doesn't need an update

However at the top gm level the games are really drawish

You're right but this thread wasn't created out of worry that chess will become boring/redundant and rather out of curiosity of the possibility of a chess 2

Team-up with 2 players on each side. One of the players play the even numbers while the odd numbers are played by the other team member. The result is a draw, or a win for two players. Optional: Each get a quart point or half point. No more full points. Everything is split.

You can even chat with your team mate and debate the move. The final decision belongs to the player that is due to play a move. Team up with a bot and have the same effect.
