why goes time sometimes up in blitz..

Watching the fastest man a live... looking at the clock... weird time goes down... all the time... however my clock sometimes goes up. could it be that there is a gravitational shift in sweden ?

but honestly ... why goes time up in blitz sometimes... is that OS specific ?

There are two possible reasons:

  1. it might be related to connection issues or lag compensation
  2. your opponent pressed the "+15 secs" button (if you both have that enabled).

As in 2), there should be a message in the chat indicating this - and it's visible on the clock as clear (maybe multiple) 15 secs increments.

Hey, Winged Nadjarostowa thanks for the response!

Just to clarify, I’m not talking about the +15 increment—this is something different. It’s more like tiny bursts of extra time during the game. For example, my opponent is at 3.4 seconds, and suddenly their clock jumps to 5.4. It happens to me too. It’s strange.

When I watch other games, I don’t see this happening. I understand how premoves work, but I thought they prevent time loss—not add time. If needed, I could record it happening.

It really takes some of the fun out of blitz. I’m not asking for any mysterious bonus time (definitely not the fuzzy +15), just for the game to stick to what’s shown.

Unless, of course... we’ve accidentally stumbled into a temporal rift mid-game and Lichess is compensating for lost time across dimensions. In that case, I take it all back. Long live the Time Lords.

Then I think it is due to bad connection of one of the players.

For example, if the move by your opponent arrives later at your device, their clock - which was running down until then - will reset to the correct time, thus giving the impression of having gained time.
