why do people defy rules

Claim: Restricting freedom or prohibiting actions often leads to increased desire and an inclination to defy the restriction.

Evidence: This psychological principle is evident in the common human tendency to be drawn to things that are forbidden. For example, telling a child they cannot touch something often makes that object the most desirable thing in the room. Similarly, historical instances of prohibition often lead to black markets and increased clandestine activity rather than complete cessation of the forbidden behavior.

Reasoning: This phenomenon is rooted in our innate drive for autonomy and control. When our freedom to choose is limited, it creates a sense of deprivation and a challenge to our independence. This triggers a psychological reactance, where we are motivated to restore our perceived freedom, often by engaging in the very behavior that is being restricted. The forbidden becomes more attractive precisely because it represents a reclaiming of our agency.

All of you are forbidden from making intelligent decisions!

(I wonder if that will work...)

It worked for me, I just joined a wonderful group who buy stock in bulk, sell to everyone we know, get them to sell to everyone they know whilst apparently getting a cut of the profits, it's called a pillock scheme or something, and I'm in on it! . :). lol
