- you can't ban a first move to a game especially since new players have to be told to play e3 to win
- if Lichess would give a patron wing to the winners, this game would progress, otherwise it will become unattractive after a while

Thank u all for ur opinions. I'm gonna say some more: even though I don't play e3 too often by myself I'm not that stubborn. So I must admit that in the submitted games even with e3 we still could see some interesting positions and good content for puzzles. Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying that NOBODY should ever touch e3 again. No, there's nothing bad in playing it from time to time. But I'd like to motivate people to be creative instead of sticking to the only one opening during their whole antichess career — that's what I mean.
If we don't ban e3 for October, there can be something else. I've recieved a suggestion, quote: "instead of no e3, how about we put a condition that not more than 10 games should be found in the lichess opening explorer of the position after 15 moves?". I personally don't know, maybe it will be too hard to implement and some games that don't satisfy these criteria can still have decent tactics in the endgames.

Even though I think its a good idea , I don't think wise to implement this idea only after three months the gotm concept was introduced. Also the participants are already (21 game posts in september gotm ) less . So you should hold on this until more player starts to post in gotm competition.
About the number of participants (excluding unrelated games): July (the 1st month) — 16; August — 26; September — 21. So now it's less comparing to the previous month. And I agree that without e3 it will decrease even more

To this question I say no.
I'm only playing 1:e3 and can't imagine to play something other(Well vs. opponents whose tacticts vs. 1. e3 I don't like, I'm playing 1:g3).
But there(1:g3) I know no tactics and etc. and playing not so good games(the mostly I lose).
G3 is a comfortable opening, I play it a lot. Just keep going and u'll win the most games too

We have had some spectacular beauties in 1. e3 lines before too.
True, I said it in the new post
This would also take care of the fact that people can play memorised lines in other openings.
Also true but memorized lines in other openings will be still more rare than memorized lines in e3

Yes, would be good if someone sponored Gotm

Maybe instead of "15 moves", it can be like "Halfway point" or smth.

Another no here. I find it contrary to the spirit of such a contest.
The game of the month should be the most creative and surprising game, regardless of the opening or how deep it goes into theory.
An accurate but unoriginal game wouldn't win the contest by definition. In that sense, the ban would be redundant. But I'd be more concerned about it being arbitrary, as deep theory also happens to some degree with some c4, b3 or g3 lines. It's not clear where to draw the line.
I can relate to the intention of the proposal, but GOTM is probably not the best platform to showcase unconventional openings.

Ok, guess I won't change the rules for main Gotm but if someone is interested we can have a separated contest at the same time but only for non e3 games. Maybe it will be small and without rating categories but if there are at least 2 participants, we still will be able to decide the winner

@WhyDoIPlayHere, I've been away for some months and I'm not well informed at this point about how this is organised. But if there is something I can help with, I'll do it gladly.

Hmm, I see u're on discord so u can come online and become our member. I'll explain more but on discord, not on the forum

In my opinion,1.e3 is popular,so it's hard to play without it.
I think in next month can choose a winner without e3(or other popular opening).
